MINERAL WINE GEEK WHITES
A selection of wines available for those interested in exploring new wines. Each set is organized around a theme; some focus on different styles of the same varietal, some are based on geographic regions, and others are grouped by style. If a specific group appeals to you or if you already enjoy one of the wines in a set, give it a try.
Trying to describe minerality to customers without sounding crazy is rather difficult – Trying to describe the flavour or sensation of sucking on stones, licking chalk or even worse, metal can leave them looking concerned for your sanity. It’s a sensation much better experienced than described. In fact, it’s wonderful. So, try these and find out for yourself.
La Battistina Nuovo Quadro Gavi del Comune di Gavi 12%abv
Cortese
Italy (Piemonte)
(Vegetarian, Vegan, Sustainable)
This wine comes from Nuovo Quadro, a single vineyard site with chalky mineral soils, at the foot of the Battistina hill. Winemaking takes place at Araldica's La Battistina winery. The Cortese grapes are typically hand-harvested in mid-September, and the freshly picked grapes are gently crushed before undergoing temperature-controlled fermentation in small volume stainless steel tanks. The wine remains in contact with the lees for up to 6 months before being fined, filtered and bottled.
Fresh, delicate aromas of citrus and pear with hints of lime. The palate is complex and textural with zesty, ripe stone fruit, crisp acidity and mineral notes. The finish is pure, long and elegant with an appealing lightly saline edge.
Muses Estate, Assyrtiko 13%abv
Assyrtiko
Greece
(Vegetarian, Vegan)
Muses Estate’s Assyrtiko is vibrant, mineral-driven, and textural, balancing its signature high acidity with a creamy mouthfeel from extended lees aging. The result is a wine with bright citrus, white flowers, and a saline finish, reflecting the old bush vines, wild fermentation, and high-altitude terroir of the Valley of the Muses..
Nicosia Contrada San Nicolò, Etna Bianco DOC 13%abv
Carricante/Minnella
Italy (Sicilia)
(Vegetarian, Vegan, Organic, Sustainable)
Pronounced and complex nose with savoury, nutty aromas and hints of fennel, ginger and white spice. The palate is fine, concentrated and textural, with lightly honeyed stone fruit balanced by minerality and sappy acidity. Long and savoury on the finish.
