1 BOTTLE OF EACH:

WINEMAKERS COLLECTION GRANITE ROCK WHITE BLEND,

SOUTH AFRICA  Bottle £9.50 GUEST WINE

A richer and fuller "school-night" wine to get through the first cold evenings of autumn. This blend of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Rousanne and Viognier has upfront tropical fruit aromas with a hint of butterscotch. Try partnering it with mild chicken or seafood curries..

K-NAIA BODEGAS NAIA,

SPAIN  Bottle £11.25

This is a top class Verdejo. It has been made with a dash of Sauvignon Blanc and displays familiar characteristics: passion fruit and citrus flavours with herbaceous notes, zesty acidity and good minerality. It will pair well with baked or grilled flat fishes, such as turbot and soles, who are at their best in Autumn.

LES COTEAUX TUFIERS VOUVRAY,

FRANCE  Bottle £11.50

A delicious off-dry style of Chenin with notes of cooked apple, agave, ginger and honey. The sweetness is perfectly balanced, resulting in a fresh wine. It is a good match for the comfort foods coming back to our table: honey roast ham, chicken cooked any way, Sunday roast and cheese platters.

SIXTY CLICKS SHIRAZ MATARO,

AUSTRALIA Bottle £9.95

A really expressive, bright contemporary Aussie red made in central Victoria. It has a fresh palate of brambly, cherry-red fruit that leads to a gently spicy finish. A very good all-rounder for cosy TV dinners and comforting meat casseroles.

ECHEVERRIA GRAN RESERVA PINOT NOIR,

CHILE Bottle £12.5  GUEST WINE

There is no smell more autumnal than those of truffle and wild mushroom. This very good value, barrel-aged Pinot Noir is a perfect match. Attractive aromas of strawberries and black cherries, raspberries and dried plums are complimented by hints of chocolate and mocha. It will also work very well with the game birds coming into season: grouse, wild ducks and pheasants.

SPENCER LA PUJADE "LE P'TIT SPENCER" CORBIERE.

FRANCE Bottle £12.75

This recent addition to our range has been very popular with staff and customers alike. This is a new school Corbieres: "un vin de soif" (a wine to quench thirst), juicy and medium bodied with sweet plum fruit. A blend of Carignan, Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache, it also possesses savoury notes, with hints of spice, garrigue and... more than a hint of nepotism: the winemaker is a cousin!

 GUARDIENSE JANARE FALANGHINA DEL SANNIO,

ITALY  Bottle £13.95

Falanghina is an ancient, lesser-known Italian white variety, cultivated in the hills of Campania around Naples. A versatile wine, it is elegant and richly textured with citrussy fruit and orchard fruit notes. It will pair well with fish, shellfish, poultry or pork dishes cooked with apple.

PIATTELLI TORRONTES,

ARGENTINA  Bottle £15.50  GUEST WINE

We really like this refreshing and fragrant Torrontes, with its bright apricot and tropical fruit flavours, 20% of the wine was aged for 2 months in oak for added complexity. The traditional pairing is with hot meat empanadas, but the Fiofar Birdie will work just as well! Just keep the tango moves out of the ceilidh!

FREDERIC GUILBAUD MUSCADET CUVEE PRESTIGE,

FRANCE  Bottle £17.95  GUEST WINE

Wow! Wow! Wow! An expensive French Burgundy with buttery oak? No, a classy Muscadet with a modern bent made by a young vigneron on his family's renowned estate, Chateau de la Bretonnerie.  Try it in September, October and November before deciding to pair it with your Christmas turkey!

VILLA LOCATELLI REFOSCO DAL PEDUNCOLO ROSSO,

ITALY  Bottle £13.95

Refosco del Pedonculo is another ancient and unsung grape variety from Italy. A decent alternative to Burgundy, this earthy wine displays all the flavours of Autumn: blackberry, cherry, forest floor and white pepper. With its lively tannins and good acidity, it will compliment game, roasts and lamb dishes.

GAIA WINES NOTIOS RED AGIORGITIKO,

GREECE  Bottle £14.50  GUEST WINE

We had discovered this little gem in a tasting almost by accident, at a time when Greek wine was not a priority for us. The label caught the eye and the wine charmed the palate. This blend of Agiorgitiko and Syrah is velvety and intense with aromas of ripe red fruit and elegant notes of butter caramel on the finish. A wine to be drunk at any opportunity.

LE RICHE CABERNET SAUVIGNON.

SOUTH AFRICA  Bottle £19.95

The Le Riche family has rapidly become one of the top specialists of Cabernet Sauvignon. This big Stellenbosch wine has a savoury nose but lush layers of fruit on the palate with hints of vanilla, pencil shavings and cedar. Try it with slow-cooked lamb shank or a rich and savoury beef casserole.
