1 BOTTLE OF EACH:

CHEVANCEAU BLANC,

FRANCE  Bottle £8.95

This unpretentious, fruit-driven blend really looks the part: you could easily picture it in a Belle Époque brasserie. It oozes Gallic charm; perfect as a chilled aperitif, it possesses enough body and structure to stand up to salads and white meat dishes.

ADOBE VIOGNIER,

CHILE  Bottle £9.95

This organic Viognier is very aromatic with lush flavours of apricot and papaya. Due to its soft texture, the wine is ideal with creamy fish, poultry and white meat dishes, but it also works well with spicy Indian food. One of our best-sellers.

ALMA DE BLANCO GODELLO

SPAIN Bottle £12.95

Godello is grown mostly in Galicia. Like its more renowned cousin, Albariño, this grape can be drunk with just about any seafood: enjoy it with Scottish shellfish, now at its best. We are fond of this little-known grape variety, who can produce very fine wines. The textural palate is crisp and fresh with light peach notes and a floral finish.

ARTOLAS RED VIDIGAL,

PORTUGAL Bottle £9.00

This Portuguese wine comes from the Lisboa region. A blend of 2 local grape varieties: Aragones and Castelão, it is fruity and medium-bodied, with a mature bouquet, earthy notes and elegant spiciness. A very good all-rounder that works well with stews and tomato-based pastas.

DOMAINE ROMY VIEILLES VIGNES 'PIERRES DOREES' BEAUJOLAIS,

FRANCE Bottle £11.95

Domaine Romy is a family grower-producer, in an area dominated by large negociants. Nicolas, the heir of the estate, is well-travelled and brings creativeness to the local traditions. The result is a high-quality Beaujolais that overdelivers for its price. This textbook Beaujolais has juicy and bright red fruit flavours with light tannins. Try it with terrines, cold meats or even grilled fish.

SORAIE IGT VENETO CECILIA BERETTA.

ITALY Bottle £13.95

This modern take on a traditional style puts a new spin on the traditional winemaking technique called 'appassimento', which is used to make the famous Amarone. Rich, velvety and round on the palate, with flavours of black plums, black cherry, vanilla and a moreish chocolatey finish: bring on the cold nights!

 TURCKHEIM GEWURZTRAMINER RESERVE,

FRANCE Bottle £14.95  GUEST WINE

This elegant wine is fruity, floral and spicy, with a typical perfumed nose. Perfect with aromatic spice based dishes, It can also be served with a strong cheese such as Munster or Stilton. Gewurztraminer is definitely a “Marmite” wine: you either love or hate the rosewater and lychee flavours, its rich texture and the underlying hint of sweetness.

TWO DOGS, A PEACOCK & A HORSE SAUVIGNON BLANC

AUSTRALIA Bottle £16.00  GUEST WINE

A gorgeous Sauvignon Blanc that bridges the Old and New Worlds: like a very fine Sancerre with a big heart. 5% of the wine was barrel-aged and 5% old-vine Semillon blended for added complexity. It is fresh, yet well rounded and concentrated with a very long, honeyed finish. Expect aromas of lychees and Granny Smith apples, and flavours of gooseberry and passion fruit.

DOMAINE CARILLON BOURGOGNE BLANC,

FRANCE  Bottle £23.95  GUEST WINE

One for the Christmas table! The prestigious Domaine Carillon produces white wines that are racy and elegant. This well-noted Chardonnay has been aged in oak. It is mineral with concentrated citrus flavours and savoury notes. Whisper it, but most of the fruit used comes from the Puligny-Montrachet terroir.

KLEINE ZALZE VINEYARD SELECTION MALBEC,

SOUTH AFRICA Bottle £14.95   GUEST WINE

A South Africa take on an Argentine classic: rich dark fruit flavours with a velvety texture. Its unlikely origin had prevented us from listing it before, despite having been repeatedly seduced by its vibrant intensity. Of course, it would star on any table, but you can also sip it by the fire on a cold night. A warming pleasure.

BERTON VINEYARD COONAWARRA, CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVE,

AUSTRALIA Bottle £16.95  GUEST WINE

So, let’s forget the season for a moment. 96 points. Best New World Cabernet by Decanter Magazine. Intense flavours of crushed blackberry and cassis with notes of eucalyptus and fresh tobacco. Enough said.

ALPHA BOX & DICE “FOG” NEBBIOLO.

AUSTRALIA Bottle £25.95  GUEST WINE

Nebbiolo derives from the Italian word for fog, so the winemakers from Alpha Box & Dice are perhaps not as unconventional as they think they are! Certainly, the label is “cutting-edge”, but the wine itself is more akin to a top-class Barolo, With aromas of tobacco and rose petals, and flavours of Turkish Delight and sandalwood. Thinking about it, every year we spend hours trying Barolos that are as eye-wateringly expensive as they are immature. So to be able to produce a Nebbiolo that good at that price, then maybe you need to be a little eccentric. One for the Christmas table.
